Tom Mckenna

Lenny Bates Jnr has won the first round of the Crash n Bash drivers series at Nagambie Speedway!!!.

With over 40 cars there for a big weekends racing there was lots of fast clean racing from our juniors and ladies. Brenden Miller was the jnr to beat all weekend having won all his heats and the final, Jamie Garlick was having a good race with Brenden but could not hold him out Jamie come home 2nd and 3rd was Kyle Attard.

The ladies were good to watch like always. Leeanne Young was the one to keep an eye on in her new gooses autos number 9 xf falcon which won best presented race car she had a heat win and won the final. 2nd was Theresa Roaden and 3rd was Finlay McDonald. Good racing girls keep it up!!!

Now it is time for the men to get down and dirty, well what can I say it was Crash n Bash time. The heats were not so easy to win there were cars spinning in to the trees and the big tyres. Car 69 did some hard hitting so did car 187 of Spiderman. Bates found it a little hard to finish all heats but that did not stop him come finals time. Damien Miller (the big show) in car 56 had 2 heat wins and was showing good pass all weekend. Chris Martin was driving hard all weekend in the 89. Final time! Spiderman out of pole and Miller out of 2. Smith got the jump on the boys and lead the first lap or 5 but Miller was on the move as the track got a little dry the big v8 in the 56 car was getting faster each lap. Miller put the move on Smith coming into turn 3 and 4 and got past. But back in the field the boys were going mad crashing and bashing. Spiderman and Bates were going for it, so was Russ Hill and Alan Treble. Miller pulled in with motor problems. But Bates was on the move working harder then ever to get past all the crashing and bashing 1st was Lenny Bates 2nd Allan Treble and 3rd was Dale Smith good drive boys you’s done well. A big thank you must go to Nagambie Speedway for having the Crash n Bash. It was a good weekend all round ….

. Crash ‘n Bash Racing started in the late 1980’s. Cannonball Derby was the name it was known by back then. Crash ‘n Bash is a form of Motor Sport where contact is permitted on the track. The idea came from three members of Alexandra Speedway who proposed that Alexandra run a class that basically had no rules. The idea behind the proposal was to have a class that was cheap to get into and give spectators something to enjoy other than Demolition Derby. It was hoped that by keeping it cheap and simple this would attract new drivers into the speedway world. The rules were rough and ready and were modelled around Fender Benders or Standard Saloons, as they are known these days. This allowed this type of car an alternative after their season of racing had finished before reshelling for the next season.

The first ever meeting was held at Alexandra Speedway in 1986. 29 Cars entered for a 69-lap endurance race. Seymour Speedway liked the idea also and ran a 99-lap endurance race the following year. Cannonball Derby became an annual event at Alexandra, pulling huge crowds and having up to 200 cars per meeting
