:: Championship Year For The Miller Boys

Sunday, 19 July 2009

The Victorian Crash N Bash Speedway Association recently held their annual presentation night after the completed speedway season and it was the # 56 Commodore from Pakenham driven by Damian & Brendan Miller that came out of the night with all the spoils.

In the senior category Damian Miller took out the Club Champion, the 100% season attendance award and the 69 Lapper at Nagambie Speedway trophies. In his best season ever the big fella was a proud lad as he accepted his trophies. He went on to say during his victor’s speech “Without my sponsors we can’t do this and I truly thank them all. Well done to runner up Dale Smith and the other competitors that competed on a regular basis throughout the season. To the association thank you again for doing the work you do to organize our season and I cant wait to do it again next year.

14 year old Brendan Miller in the junior category won the Club Championship & 100% attendance and is Speedway star of the future as he looks forward to working his way up in the next couple years to senior ranks in the Crash N Bash and possibly into non contact Speedway racing also.

Proud parents Tim & Stella Miller have seen the financial support of their boys bare Championship results, however no matter their placings at the end of the year they both are proud that the boys have found an activity that allows them to have fun and build new friendships right across Victoria.

Next season the lads will have a car each in which to compete in their own categories and the boys are very much looking forward to that.

Throughout the season the team had assistance with crew work that was provided by Tim Miller, Tim Cole, Tom McKenna and when not racing Brendan Miller. Without this help again it becomes very difficult to stay in the sport so Damian and Brendan appreciate the work from their supporters.

All the team sponsors are very much appreciated, without their support the investment in the car and engine the results would not be there. A special thanks to Russell & Sharon Hill of Ramsdale Wreckers who never fail to assist the team.

The guys now work hard on their car in the off season in readiness for the new season.

Sponsors thanks:

. Crash ‘n Bash Racing started in the late 1980’s. Cannonball Derby was the name it was known by back then. Crash ‘n Bash is a form of Motor Sport where contact is permitted on the track. The idea came from three members of Alexandra Speedway who proposed that Alexandra run a class that basically had no rules. The idea behind the proposal was to have a class that was cheap to get into and give spectators something to enjoy other than Demolition Derby. It was hoped that by keeping it cheap and simple this would attract new drivers into the speedway world. The rules were rough and ready and were modelled around Fender Benders or Standard Saloons, as they are known these days. This allowed this type of car an alternative after their season of racing had finished before reshelling for the next season.

The first ever meeting was held at Alexandra Speedway in 1986. 29 Cars entered for a 69-lap endurance race. Seymour Speedway liked the idea also and ran a 99-lap endurance race the following year. Cannonball Derby became an annual event at Alexandra, pulling huge crowds and having up to 200 cars per meeting
